The Greatest Ambition
The Greatest Ambition
We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord, Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him (2 Corinthians 5:8-9).
An ambition is defined as a desire to achieve a particular goal. One of the greatest, if not the greatest, ambitions we can hold in our heart is to live every moment of this earthly life pleasing and glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:13-14; 1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 2:4; 2 Timothy 4:6-8; 1 Corinthians 5:20). We should have a strong desire to make the Lord our everything as we go about our daily life. The first verse of “He Is My Everything” says it so well, “He is my everything. He is my all. He is my everything both great and small. He gave His life for me, made everything new. He is my everything. Now how about you? Some folks may ask me, some folks may say, Who is this Jesus you talk about every day? He is my Savior. He set me free. Now listen while I tell you what He means to me. He is my everything. He is my all.”
When we make Him our everything, we live our life by faith in the Son of God who loved us enough to die for us, shedding His blood to make it possible for us to be cleansed of our sins and one day be at home with Him (Romans 5:8-9; Colossians 1:12-14; Hebrews 5:8-9). Today, hear the words of Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” This passage is without a doubt, a beautiful summation of the life of a faithful child of God.
We do not know from one moment to the next what the future holds for us while on this earthly pilgrimage. Days gone by have brought a measure of happiness, joy, peace and contentment. They have also brought those times of pain, sorrow, heartache and disappointments. I believe it is safe to say that there have been days when we have climbed to the mountain tops of victory and success and there have also been those days when we have walked through the valley of despair, heartache and discouragement. Through it all, we can be certain that if we have a strong ambition to make the Lord Jesus Christ our everything both great and small, whatever days we have left on planet earth will be safe and secure.
“We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and be at home with the Lord.” There is a beautiful home that tugs at my heart today John 14:1-3). It is my ambition, and I pray yours also, to live each day loving and trusting in the Lord with all my heart, soul and strength. I am going to cling to Him for dear life knowing that He gave Himself up for me. What more is there to say, eternal life with God and the redeemed of all ages forever. What a joy it will be!
